The charitable registration working group was formed by minute 13 of Lancaster Monthly Meeting (to be known in future as Lancashire Central and North Area Quaker Meeting) held in Morecambe on 25 November 2006.
Quakers have held charitable status for many years in common with many churches and other organisations. In November 2006 a new Charities Act came into force; this resulted in Lancashire Central and North Area Quaker meeting needing to prepare for the process of charitable registration.
This process is allowing a small working group the time and space to examine our ways of working in the light of our Quaker discipline. We are also looking at the proper and transparent stewardship of our assets.
We are pleased to be able to report that our procedures have been good but hope that we can still make small improvements. This web page contains links to the following documents that the group has ready for the review of the Area Meeting in November. We will continue to update this page.
Governing Document this is a legal document that tries to encompass our book of Quaker Faith and Practice into a document so that our area meeting can be registered as a charity.
Terms of Reference for the trustees this is an agreement between the Area Meeting and the Trustees.
Trustees General Responsibilities this is a guide to help our nominations committee in their work and as a first port of call for anyone nominated.
Clerk to Trustees this document is an aide-memoir to a serving clerk.
Memoranda of Understanding these documents reflect the responsibilities of the different bodies.
